My take on libraries

To my mind, libraries are essential. Everyone should have access to books and children should be encouraged to learn the joy that comes from discovering a new adventure.

We've been hearing about cuts in the UK's library service for years and the current economic situation means that library stocks are being cut, opening hours are being slashed and libraries are being closed down forever. …

Following on...

I know (thanks for the emails!) that a lot of you have been unable to follow this new blog of mine. I think - hope - I've solved this problem. Yes, folks, I now have a 'Followers' button. It's just there, see? On the right? Whether it actually works, of course, is an entirely different matter. I seem to have followed myself okay but that's not particular useful or clever, is it? If you'd like to follow, please try it out. …

I fell in love...

I forgot to mention that, during my fortnight away from the desk, I fell in love. With this handsome chap.

Isn't he gorgeous? We all visited the Wild Boar Park, near Chipping, Lancashire, which I highly recommend, especially if you're entertaining young children. As well as the animals - wild boar, llamas, wallabies, deer, etc. - there are great things for kids like the play park, barrel rides and chick stroking. …

Thank you!

I had a wonderful fortnight away from the desk. It was lovely to see the family and we had a lot of fun exploring and chasing the sunshine. We enjoyed some brilliant days out and it made me appreciate what a truly beautiful part of the world I live in. Although I won't be posting to this blog for a couple of weeks, and any responses to emails will be delayed (please bear with me), I shall be keeping up with Twitter and Facebook. …

Before I Go To Sleep...

Regular readers will know that I'm rarely swayed by a lot of hype surrounding a book. Before I Go To Sleep has been everywhere lately and I've done my best to ignore it, mainly because I couldn't find out much about it. It's almost impossible to find the back cover copy. All you see is amazing reviews. I knew that a woman went to sleep and forgot everything. Yeah, right. It simply didn't appeal.
